How HMC Supports Improvement
Administrators must function in their individual facilities and at system or corporate-wide levels. This is difficult as it requires accessing potentially dozens of different operational and general ledger applications. It also requires rolling the information up from the facility level for enterprise-wide reporting.
To assist, HMC Benchmarks delivers corporate-wide views, but with the capacity to drill down to an individual facility and see its healthcare overhead services and delivery costs. The HMC Benchmarks offers three role-based views:
Facility. The burden of performance and budgeting pressures is falling directly on individual hospitals. This view allows you see the root causes of costs and excesses and identify the facility’s own responsibility.
Corporate Expense. Allocations can distort assessments of corporate expenses. To address this, HMC offers a snapshot of an entire multi-facility network, and can classify key overhead services as corporate-wide. These costs are borne on a facility level, but mapped system-wide. The HMC Corporate Expense view creates a more accurate picture of your actual cost effectiveness. It also enables improvement efforts to appropriately target so-called “pressure-free” corporate costs
System Level. Every health care system will have common issues and challenges faced by its individual facilities. HMC collapses these recurrent issues and opportunities into a single system-wide view that can enable significant and powerful improvement opportunities. The tool even permits you to compare and contrast internal benchmarks with external benchmarks from peers.
